New right to request time off to train

Right to request time off to train leaves employers unperturbed
Latest research from IRS looking at HR and training professionals’ views finds that a significant number were not aware that legislation giving employees the right to request time off to train is about to be introduced. Those that were aware believed it would not have a significant impact on their organisation because they already have an inclusive approach to training. However, some are worried that employees will try to get time off for personal development.

NEW LEGISLATION
Welcome to the new training e-newsletter from XpertHR.

This e-bulletin will be sent out every two months bringing you information on key workplace training issues and helping you keep up with features, news and information on employee training as it is added to the XpertHR website.

This first bulletin looks at the new legislation giving people employed by organisations with 250 or more employees a right to request time off to study or train, as of 6 April 2010. Research carried out by IRS, and published exclusively on XpertHR, found that employers are not overly perturbed by the new right as most believe they already provide ample training opportunities.

A second, more in-depth piece of research by IRS looks at how employers are progressing with the evaluation of their organisation’s training.

Watch out for the IRS report on line manager training in our next training bulletin. In the meantime, if you have any comments or ideas on how we can improve our newsletters, please contact me by clicking on my name below.
