PAY PROSPECTS FOR 2012
In this issue, we present the results of our annual survey of pay prospects. Our survey received responses from 286 private sector companies, which reported on their pay intentions for next year in relation to 587 employee groups.

The key message from our survey is that the level of pay awards is expected to pick up next year, with a median forecast pay increase of 2.5%. This compares with a median 2% pay award recorded in the three months to the end of September 2011. However, company performance and inflation are likely to be the biggest influences on the level of pay rises awarded next year, and the volatility of both of these measures means that we could well see pay rises either higher or lower than 2.5% in the year ahead.

To see how next year's pay forecast compares with pay rises over the past year, see our review of 2010/11 pay trends as well as detailed analysis of pay trends and issues in 12 distinct sub-sectors. You can also view all the key findings of our annual review of pay trends and prospects in this slideshow.

In the next issue of this newsletter, published on 4 November 2011, will we review the bargaining agenda and likely reward issues by sector, as well as present our latest twice-yearly economic outlook.
