PAY TRENDS
The year ahead will be a busy one for reward professionals. The annual pay award, stuck in the doldrums for the past two years, is back in business. Pay awards have ticked up to their highest level for two years - 2.3% in the three months to the end of February 2011. Our analysis of the latest pay data also looks at other indicators of a general upward trend in the level of pay awards.
When we asked reward practitioners which topics would be a priority for 2011, five key areas emerged. The central theme among these (which included benefits reviews and pay benchmarking) was a need to maintain employee engagement while still keeping an eye on costs.
The public sector is facing particular pressure on its wage bill. Our survey of 92 public sector employers examines cuts to the paybill during 2010 and the outlook for 2011.
