PAY TRENDS
The bargaining environment is going through a period of change at the moment. As economic conditions slowly improve, there is potential for higher pay rises to be awarded. Certainly, our examination of bargaining conditions last month showed that employees' expectations are for higher pay awards this year.
Early indications from January 2011 pay awards suggest that this may well be the case. Our latest monthly review of pay trends reveals a declining proportion of pay freezes, a rise in the upper quartile pay settlement and a high proportion of deals that are worth more than the same group of employees received a year ago.
Yet, although inflation is expected to fall during the course of the year, pay settlements still have a long way to go to catch up with price increases.
Pay setters will also be interested in the pay forecast survey we launched this week. Let us know what pay rise your organisation is expecting to award this year and in return you will receive detailed findings of pay forecasts from other organisations across the economy.
Readers looking beyond pay rises to actual salary levels can browse the latest published salary surveys in our round-up.
