Private sector employers forecast a year of pay restraint

Reward priorities in 2011

BUDGET 2011
This packed issue offers a full run-down of announcements contained in the 2011 Budget, from income tax changes to measures to tackle youth unemployment. As always, there is plenty in the small print to keep reward professionals busy, not least the proposed crackdown on disguised remuneration, the scope of which is far from clear.

Our second section reveals the results of a survey of 315 private sector employers on their pay plans for the coming 12 months. They predict a median pay award of just 2%, signalling that pay awards are likely to remain restrained for some time to come. Pay freezes look set to remain a feature of the reward scene - albeit a less important one - but no employer is proposing a pay cut.

XpertHR also contains all the guidance you need on the right to additional paternity leave, which came into force on 3 April 2011, allowing fathers to benefit from up to six months' additional paternity leave should the mother or primary adopter return to work.
