MANUFACTURING PAY
We review pay bargaining in the manufacturing sector, based on a survey of 94 employers. Manufacturing pay awards are above the whole-economy norm; pay freezes are uncommon and employees have supported measures taken to ride out the recession.

However, half our respondents expect to make redundancies in 2011, while a quarter may cut working hours temporarily. The state of the economy and company profitability will shape the next pay award. Employers expect to award a median 2.25% pay award over the next year, compared with the current median increase in the sector of 2.6%.
