WAGE BARGAINING IN 2012
With the planned public sector "day of action" just a few weeks away, our articles on the 2012 bargaining agenda explain the challenges that employers and trade unions face when it comes to pay-setting negotiations.

The primary factor affecting pay is the volatile economy and, for 2011/12, it is unlikely that pay settlements will match, let alone exceed, headline inflation. In addition to looking at pay-setting in the manufacturing sector, we also look at private sector services, sharing the opinions of key decision-makers among employers and unions.

Many employees are experiencing cuts in their standard of living, but this is little surprise given the current economic turmoil. Our latest twice-yearly economic outlook considers the dramatic year that the economy has experienced, and considers the steps taken by the Bank of England as it attempts to spur economic growth while reducing inflation.
