TOP FIVE ARTICLES ON XPERTHR
In this issue we include the top five most popular employment relations articles on XpertHR since January 2011.
Also, XpertHR's latest research among HR practitioners looks at how the new fit note system has bedded in. Here, we present both parts of our research, looking at employers' reaction to, and use of, fit notes.
Conducted just 12 months after the introduction of the new system, our research finds that employers are evenly split on whether or not they think the fit note is an improvement on the previous sick note system. Just under half of our respondents believe that the new fit note system is a significant step forward in managing sickness absence.
The system, which was to encourage an earlier return to work, has not had a major impact on absence rates - more than two-thirds of our respondents report no change in their sickness absence. However, we have found that employers generally welcome the changes that have been introduced, although many would like to see GPs using the fit notes to give clearer advice or instruction.
