INFLATION STATISTICS IN PAY SETTING
Many employers use inflation statistics to gauge increases in the cost of living when setting a pay award. This month, the Office for National Statistics made some important changes to the inflation statistics that it publishes, adding two new measures of consumer price inflation and relegating the one most commonly used by employers, the retail prices index.
The latest addition to the XpertHR "how to" section explains these changes, examines the different measures and looks at how employers use inflation statistics in the pay-setting process.
