Absence records - their role in absence management

Compiling, maintaining and using absence records: the 2009 IRS survey
The latest research from IRS on compiling, maintaining and using absence records reflects on the practice of 253 employers, and shows that not all are happy with the quality of data that was being collected, or the use made of records. More than one-third of organisations have taken steps to improve the way absence was recorded within their organisation. Findings also show the importance of line managers in effective absence management and, crucially, in the updating and maintenance of absence records.

NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK
We’re kick-starting the new year with a new-look e-newsletter, focusing specifically on absence and attendance issues.

This e-bulletin will appear on a monthly basis and will contain information on key developments in the management of employee absence and attendance. It will also act as a unique reference point for all new content as it is added to XpertHR.

This first bulletin looks at IRS research - published exclusively on XpertHR - into the compilation, maintenance and use of absence records, detailing employer practice among 253 organisations.

This is the first of three focused absence and attendance reports - our next issue will feature a detailed article on employer practice when setting and implementing absence trigger rates.

We’re always interested in hearing your views on our content - and particularly how you think the new e-bulletin works for you. You can email me directly. I look forward to hearing from you.
