CUTTING COSTS
Learning and development budgets have not increased since 2009, according to new XpertHR research. The average amount spent on each employee's learning was £326 over the past 12 months. This compares with an equivalent figure of £334 in 2009.

The 2011 survey also looks at measures taken by employers to reduce learning and development costs, and finds that six in 10 are turning to online learning resources (59%) and increased use of line manager involvement in the delivery of training (57%). Both of these measures have had a positive impact at many organisations, including increased engagement among line managers and training that is more tailored to the needs of individuals.

Watch out for our survey report on employee training rights in the next XpertHR training e-newsletter. As well as looking at views on the legislation, it will look at how far employers fund or assist training that has been requested by individual employees. The questionnaire is still open for those who wish to participate.
