DEALING WITH BULLYING AND HARASSMENT
More than eight respondents in 10 to our survey on bullying and harassment have experienced at least one reported case over the past two years. Deploying mediation using trained mediators, training for employees and putting in place awareness campaigns are rated by our respondents as the most effective methods of dealing with such cases. Early intervention once an incident has come to light is also key.

When looking at why organisations feel they fail in tackling bullying and/or harassment in the workplace, employers told us that a lack of trust among employees in the reporting and investigatory process, and poor examples of behaviour standards among senior leaders - especially if bullying behaviour appears to go unpunished - were fundamental barriers.

Our line manager briefing on this topic provides practical guidance on areas such as what should be done to reduce the likelihood of bullying and harassment incidents, and how complaints can be dealt with effectively should they arise. We have also produced a PowerPoint presentation for training purposes.
