XpertHR has prepared a wealth of information for HR practitioners for the year ahead. We outline key employment law dates for 2012, as well as bank holidays and religious festivals, including an overview of employees' rights to time off on the Diamond Jubilee bank holiday. We also describe 10 people management priorities for 2012, including the Olympics - set for London in August this year.

Elsewhere, we explore how coaching for women returning to work after maternity leave can ensure a smoother transition back to work and improve the retention of valuable female employees. Steps that can be taken to improve the understanding between employers and fathers of young children are also outlined - particularly now fathers have the right to share leave following the birth of a child.

One company that has taken steps in this area is finance group Citi - our in-depth case study explores just what those steps were and how they led the company to win awards in this area.
