Our latest research explores current practice among 237 employers and finds that line managers are generally the gatekeepers for absence records. Problems with the accuracy or maintenance of records usually revolve around managers and their diligence in compiling data.

Our respondents provided a wealth of information on the types of triggers used and the consequences of reaching any predetermined triggers.
Just 44% of our respondents set collective targets for absence levels, but eight in 10 believe that having them in place has been successful in managing absence.  

Public-sector organisations are most likely to set targets (69%), compared with private-sector-services companies (30%) and the manufacturing-and-production sector (61%).
