The majority of UK employers provide either a company car or a car allowance to at least some of their employees. However, for the first time, employers are now more likely to offer their employees a car allowance rather than a company car, according to XpertHR's survey of benefits and allowances packages in 356 organisations.

Pay trends June 2012
Our analysis of pay settlement trends reveals that while the overall median pay increase so far this year stands at 2.5% in the private sector, there are considerable variations between different industrial sectors.

Inflation and earnings forecasts
Retail prices index inflation is expected to average 2.8% in the final quarter of the year, while the weak labour market will feed into slow earnings growth for the remainder of the year.

MANAGING UNDERPERFORMANCE
Nine respondents in 10 to our latest research on managing underperformance tell us that they have been affected by underperforming employees, with capability and absence the two most common poor-performance issues.

When it comes to dealing with underperformance, respondents tell us that the role of line managers is key - their competency and confidence are the most important aspects of managing employees who are not performing as would be expected. However, employers are not overly confident that they are successful in their approaches, which in turn means that line managers are not as effective as they should be. Our good practice guide is a useful tool to help employers to deal with this area, and also to coach and mentor managers.

Elsewhere, our latest review of pay settlements shows considerable variations between different industrial sectors.
